In Birgitta Spur's Foreword, she discusses the encounters of these two artists in Denmark. In her arcticle, „Interplay. Sigurjón Ólafsson & Finn Juhl − Thinking across Sculpture and Design“ art historian Æsa Sigurjónsdóttir focuses on these two artists separately, their relationship and contemporary artists in Denmark. The catalogue corrects two errors that have been around in Danish art publications for years; that The Hand (LSÓ 1050) is the work of Erik Thommesen (p. 20), and Desire (LSÓ 234) is by Jean Arp (p. 32). Both are the work of Sigurjón Ólafsson.

Those Rounded Stones
[VHS - videotape]

Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum, Reykjavík 1992
Icelandic (PAL) and English (PAL and NTSC) versions

This video film is partly based upon an interview with Sigurjón Ólafsson, from 1980 by sculptor Erlingur Jónsson, who assisted Ólafsson for a time. The form, anatomy and texture of his portraits are discussed, as well as the artist's different treatment of materials, light and shadow, color and motion. Insight is offered into Ólafsson's ideas through an examination of individual works. The film includes photographs and film of the artist at work.

Sigurjón Ólafsson was without doubt the most inspired and sensitive creator of portraits Iceland has produced. His inspiration is brought out in the many methods he had at his disposal in order to express his perception of his sitters. His sensitivity to individual character bears fruit in portraits which are rich in psychological content. (Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson, art historian).
