Birgitta Spur (b. 1931)
Birgitta Spur was born in Funen where her father was a clergyman. As a young art student she met Sigurjón Ólafsson and was married to him in 1956. As this portrait was not a commission, the artist was able to do some experimenting with planes, as he does in the sculptures that he carved out of stone during the same period.
